Haliphron Birdwing Butterflies (male and female) - original specimen box
Troides haliphron, the haliphron birdwing, is a birdwing butterfly confined to Sulawesi and the lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia.
These specimens are in their original box and present a male and a female. The male is at the top, with its black forewings, with veins bordered by white shading. The hindwings are also black with a golden band in the discal area of the wing. The veins are black and they cleave the golden area.
The female is larger and its base forewing colour is brown, with veins bordered by white shading. There is a yellow area with dark veins on the hindwings with a chain of black spots is in the yellow area.
This collection of butterflies, including these male and female Haliphron Birdwings, were part of a historic collection purchased at a UK auction in 2024 from specimens collected in the 1970s.
The item is framed in a collector’s shadow box that is 26cm x 33cm and hanging hooks have been added for wall display.
