Antique Georgian (Regency Period) Convex Gilded Mirror
Lovely 18th-19th century gilt wood and gesso plaster convex wall mirror typical of Georgian/Regency period homes. These mirrors were markers of status and are sometimes called a 'butlers' mirror, as they were used in large Georgian country homes by servants to observe a room more fully, especially at meal times or when service might be required.
As you can see in the photos, some of the gold and gesso is worn in some areas or chipped. It could be fully restored if desired, but I like the chips and cracks as I think it adds to the charm.
This mirror is quite large at 60cm in diameter and is heavy (8-10kg?) as it is made of hardwood and thick mirror glass. Each of the balls along the oustide are secure and the mirror is still in very good condition considering its age.
